What is Tonsilitis?

Tonsillitis is an infection of tonsils, two masses of tissue at the throat back. Tonsillitis is common in kids. It can cause once in a while or come back again and again in a shorter period.

What causes Tonsilitis?

Tonsillitis are caused by bacteria and virus. Streptococcus (strep) bacteria, is also caused by strep throat. Common causes include:

• Adenoviruses
• Influenza virus
• Epstein-Barr virus
• Parainfluenza viruses
• Enteroviruses
• Herpes simplex virus

How is Tonsilitis treated?

Treatment will depend in part on what causes your illness.
